Proudly based in Willerby, East Yorkshire, HMJ is an independent jewellery and creative experiences brand built around individuality, self-expression and the belief that creativity has the power to make people feel good.

Established in 2016 and taken full-time in 2020, HMJ has grown into a recognised, multi-award-winning British jewellery brand, combining distinctive design with a personal and approachable service.

We bring our own unique flavour to everything that we create. From an individual piece of handmade jewellery, to a creative workshop, or a completely bespoke commission, we invite you to become part of the creative journey.

Our name, High Maintenance Jewellery, represents confidence, personality and unapologetic self-expression. It’s about embracing who you are, celebrating your individuality and wearing jewellery that makes you feel good.

With one eye firmly on creativity and the other on affordability, our mission is simple: to provide quality, originality and a genuinely personal experience.

At HMJ, we understand that jewellery can be much more than an accessory. It can be a memory, a statement, a gift, a confidence boost or simply something that makes you smile.

We are passionate about creating jewellery that feels special and distinctive. To maintain that sense of individuality, we aim to create no more than five of the same jewellery design, with many pieces being completely one-of-a-kind.

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS; Creativity should be for everyone. Through Happiness Making Jewellery, our sister creative workshop brand, we deliver engaging jewellery-making experiences for children, young people and adults.

Our popular private children’s jewellery parties give children the opportunity to design, create and take pride in something that is uniquely theirs. With guidance, encouragement and plenty of creative freedom, each child becomes the jewellery designer.

Alongside private parties, we deliver creative development workshops for a wide range of organisations and communities, including charities, schools, youth groups, community organisations, volunteer groups and NHS teams. Our workshops are designed to encourage creativity, confidence, self-expression and connection, whilst developing practical skills in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. We are incredibly proud to have been trusted to work alongside so many inspiring organisations and hardworking teams.

BESPOKE JEWELLERY; Your jewellery is important, it can represent so much. That is why our bespoke service is about creating pieces that hold a memory, celebrates a person, or tells a story.

From one-to-one consultations, through to the final handmade piece, every bespoke commission is personally designed and created by Kate, with the wearer and their story at the heart of the process. Whether you’re looking to commemorate a special moment, create a meaningful gift or bring your own jewellery idea to life, we work together to create something genuinely personal.

OUR COMMUNITY; Being a born-and-bred Hull woman in business, Kate is incredibly proud of HMJ’s Yorkshire roots.

Supporting our local community is an important part of who we are. HMJ proudly collaborates with and supports a selection of regional charities and organisations that are personally meaningful to us. We also work with selected local business stockists, offering exclusive seasonal jewellery collections, alongside hosting creative events, competitions, pop-ups and other opportunities to bring our community together.
